Speeding crackdown on Edinburgh and East Lothian roads as police stop dozens of drivers

Dozens of drivers have been pulled over as police clamp down on speeding on roads throughout Edinburgh and East Lothian.

On Wednesday Drylaw Community and Response officers conducted checks in the Blackhall area. And as a result they pulled over a host of drivers – warning six, issuing two with penalty tickets and charging a further two.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, police teams spent a morning in Gifford in a bid to improve road safety.

East Lothian Police said: "In line with local policing priorities and issues identified at a recent CAPP meeting, officers were out patrolling in Gifford this morning.

"A number of drivers were spoken to and warned in line with Lord Advocate's guidelines in relation to speeding.

"Drivers were also spoken to in relation to inconsiderate parking and parking near junctions."

To round off a busy few days officers visited the hamlet of Bolton on Thursday to conduct further checks.

They added: "Upon stopping a driver for exceeding the speed limit, he was found to be unlicensed and uninsured.

"His vehicle was subsequently seized.

"Drivers are reminded that they must have the relevant documentation to legally drive on the road or face having their vehicle seized.

"No licence, No insurance = No car."
