Speeding car in Radford led to arrest of two drug dealers and discovery of £17k in cash

Police have revealed how a speeding car in Radford sparked a chase that led to the arrest of two drug dealers.

Callum Dougan, 25, of Melton Road, Edwalton, and Thomas James Williams, 24, of Gillercomb Close, , received suspended sentences after pleading guilty to drug-dealing charges in connection with incidents across Nottinghamshire.

Williams was charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply cannabis and received a 23-month sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Dougan was charged with three offences involving ecstasy and was given a 20-month sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Both were ordered to do 200 hours’ unpaid work.

The pair were arrested on the evening of April 3, 2018, after plain-clothes officers on patrol in Radford saw a Mercedes speeding, arousing suspicion that the occupants were trying to get away from something.

Moments later, officers in a marked police car drove by and the plain-clothed cops asked them to help stop the vehicle.

Officers from the marked car caused the car to stop.

Both men ran off but were caught and arrested.

Inside the vehicle were two bags of drugs, and cash.

Williams was found in possession of cannabis, while Dougan had drugs stashed in his underwear.

“A significant quantity of cash and drugs” was recovered at an address linked to Dougan.

Police said the drugs found would have had a street value of around £9,000.

Officers also seized more than £17,000 in cash that evening.

The Nottinghamshire Police officer, who led the investigation, said: “This was excellent teamwork by plain-clothed and uniformed officers to arrest the pair and get this result at court.”

He said the seizure of mobile phones revealed text messages that showed the level of drug deals the pair were involved in. “Drug dealing is a serious offence and is often linked to violence, weapon offences and acquisitive crime and we are determined to root out drug dealers from our communities. “If you are aware of drug dealing or suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please call us on 101 and we will take action.”
