Speeding car crashes into Alice Springs home, narrowly missing family inside

The car crashed through a fence and into the wall of the Singh family's home.

An Alice Springs family is feeling lucky to have escaped alive and uninjured after a speeding car missed a turn and crashed into the front of their house.

Gurpreet Singh and Akvinder Kaur were home with Ms Kaur's mother and their two nephews when the Holden Commodore crashed into their living room at 6:30pm on Thursday.

Mr Singh was standing in front of the house at the time and was narrowly missed by the vehicle when it burst through the fence.

"We just saw a car … he drove through the wall, into the house," Mr Singh said.

"It was so horrible to see, it was very terrifying.

"He risked his life, and he put another five people's lives at risk."

Inside the house, Ms Kaur said she saw "headlights on my knees" moments before the impact.

Northern Territory Police said investigators were still confirming the identity of the driver and the number of people inside the car.

One male occupant was taken to hospital with a minor head injury.

Police at the scene said empty alcohol containers were found inside the car but have not determined whether drug or alcohol were contributing factors.

The family spent the evening at a relative's house.

Mr Singh said they were grateful for their community's support.

"[We saw] the bad part of this town, but we've also seen a good part of the people, all who came to offer help [and] show sympathy."
