The lawyer of speedboat killer Jack Shepherd, who disappeared part way through his trial over the death of his date Charlotte Brown, has denied knowing his whereabouts.

The web designer has been at large since being convicted in his absence of manslaughter by gross negligence in July last year.

Shepherd, 31, has been given permission to appeal the conviction despite refusing to give himself up to authorities.

Police have conceded there has been “no tangible trace” of Shepherd, despite him being in contact with his lawyers.

Detectives conceded he could be “anywhere in the world.”

In an interview with ITV News, Shepherd’s solicitor Richard Egan said he has “no idea” where he is.

“The fact that I’m in contact with him does not mean I know where he is,” he told the network.

“He is entitled to contact his lawyer, I have a duty to act for him in his best interests.

"I'm not part of the police, it's not my duty to dob him in or say what I know about him."

Mr Egan also refused to say how he was contacting Shepherd or whether he was advising him to attend his appeal.

Shepherd’s lawyers are funded through legal aid.

Shepherd was sentenced to six years in jail after being found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence following the death of Miss Brown, 24, in a speedboat accident on the Thames in December 2015.

Detectives say he may be using secret bank accounts belonging to friends or relatives to finance his life on the run and has urged anyone with information to come forward
