Speed on Green camera that has caught the most drivers released by police

The Speed on Green camera that captures the most Merseyside motorists has been revealed.

The new cameras, which were first switched on in our region earlier this year, don't just capture people who drive through red lights but also the speed of cars passing, even when the light is green.

And since being activated since the start of this year they have activated a colossal 21,005 times over eight different sites in Merseyside, according to a Freedom of Information request submitted to Merseyside Police.

The request shows that the camera that caught the most people is the one located at Crosby Road South/Cambridge Road (Southbound).

It has caught a staggering 7,348 vehicles since it was activated in February.

That camera is in Sefton, where the cameras were first tested, so it has been active for longer than some of the other cameras on the list.

The second highest location on the list is also in Sefton, but the third highest is on a busy road in Liverpool.

The Speed on Green camera at Leeds Street/Vauxhall Road has captured 5,199 vehicles since its activation.

At the other end of the scale, the camera located on the A57 Liverpool Road/Princess Drive has only captured one driver, though the ECHO understands it has only very recently been activated.

Here is the full list of each active Speed on Green camera and the number of drivers they have caught.

  • Crosby Road South/Cambridge Road (Southbound) - 7,348
  • Northway (A59)/ Hall Lane - 5,954
  • Leeds Street/Vauxhall Road - 5,199
  • New Chester Road (A41) / Pool Lane - 1,674
  • Archway Road/Rupert Road - 441
  • Park Road North/Duke Street - 253
  • Queens Drive / Mill Bank - 135
  • A57 Liverpool Road/Princess Drive - 1
