The speed limit on more than 20 roads around Edinburgh could be reduced under an ambitious plan to slow down traffic in the city.
Officials at the city council have been working on plans to make traffic slower at several key points around the capital.
It comes after a £3m project to reduce speed limits on Edinburgh streets to a default of 20mph. The scheme was criticised after it emerged motorists' actual speeds had only dropped by an average of 1.34mph.
Some trunk roads were kept at 40mph, but the council is keen to do more to discourage speeding an encourage active travel.
A report going before councillors this week has analysed data on Edinburgh's 40mph roads and come up with recommendations on which ones should be reduced.
The report says: "Following the recent completion of the rollout of the citywide 20mph network, a review has been undertaken of all 40mph roads within the City of Edinburgh Council’s boundary to consider the potential to reduce their speed limits to 30mph."
The roads would also get traffic calming measures like pedestrian islands and cycle lanes.
Thursday's meeting of the transport committee will also discuss plans to extend the 20mph limit to other roads.
