New speed cameras for 15 busy traffic spots in Bangkok to catch motorists who break the rules will be delayed by one month because of technical issues, officials said.
The surveillance cameras were originally due to start operating on Thursday.
The latest inspection found that only the camera installed at Huai Khwang underpass on Ratchadaphisek Road was functioning properly. The others will require until the end of the year, Traffic Police Division deputy chief Pol Col Kitti Ariyanon said.
The cameras are designed to catch motorists who speed or break the rules when changing lanes.
"We expect to make arrests and issue tickets in early January," Pol Col Kitti said.
The new cameras will be installed on Din Daeng Road at Sam Liam Din Daeng and on Lat Phrao Road at the Ratchada-Lat Phrao intersection.
Busy roads near nine flyovers are also on the surveillance list.
These are on Ngam Wong Wan Road, Chaeng Watthana Road, Boromratchonnanee Road, Phetchaburi Road, Ratchadaphisek Road and Kalapraphreuk Road. Siriraj and Memorial bridges will also be equipped with cameras.
