Speculation about Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi as Reds could face cuts

Bleak outlook

Nottingham Forest supporters have reasons to be concerned ahead of the new Championship season.

That’s the verdict of journalist and long-suffering Reds fan Daniel Taylor, who feels the outlook following  Forest’s astonishing capitulation on Wednesday evening, is bleak.

From their final two games, Forest needed just a point to secure a play-off place, but collapsed catastrophically to lose 1-0 in the 94th minute at bottom-side Barnsley last weekend, before succumbing to a 4-1 hammering at home to Stoke City.

Given Forest’s failure to end their 21-year wait for Premier League football, the financial implications of that coupled with the impact of Covid-19, could see a raft of cuts at the City Ground, he suggests.

Carvalho claim

Sabri Lamouchi's "frustration" with Joao Carvalho's attitude is said to be the reason the £13.2m record signing has been frozen out at Nottingham Forest.

Carvalho last started for the Reds in March, in their 3-0 defeat to Millwall at the City Ground - and has made only one sub appearance since, against Huddersfield at the end of last month.

He was left out of the squad completely for their final three matches of the campaign, as Forest tried to seal a place in the Championship play-offs.

And The Athletic claim his absence is down to his attitude.

Lamouchi speculation

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi is reportedly a “candidate” for the vacant managerial post at Watford.

The Frenchman’s future at the City Ground is in the spotlight after the Reds collapsed at the final hurdle in their bid for the play-offs.

And according to the Evening Standard, Lamouchi is a potential option for the Hornets job.

The Premier League outfit sacked Nigel Pearson last weekend, with their battle for top-flight survival going down to the wire.

Ex-Red's verdict

Nottingham Forest’s final day capitulation will “stick with them” for some time, according to former Red Jermaine Jenas.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side threw away the chance of a top six finish when they collapsed 4-1 at home to Stoke City on Wednesday night.

The Reds needed just a point to confirm a play-off place, having gone into the match in fifth spot, three points ahead of Swansea City and with a better goal difference.

But three goals in a hugely damaging 20-minute spell killed off Forest’s promotion dream, with the Swans triumphing over Reading by the same scoreline to overtake their rivals.
