Spectator seriously injured at car meet with 'irresponsible unskilled drivers'

A spectator was seriously injured at a car meet for high-powered cars as police warn the drivers are 'irresponsible and unskilled'.

Officers warned people not to take their families to these events saying they continue to be proliferated by irresponsible unskilled drivers.

Derbyshire police tweeted to say a pedestrian was injured in the "serious crash" involving a car on Sunday night.

Adding that the casualty remained in hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening.

The driver of the car has been located, it added.

Officers went on to issue a safety warning about organised car meets, which are held twice a month at the MFN venue near Shipley Gate in the Amber Valley, Derbyshire Live reports.

They wrote: "Folks, these meets are not somewhere to bring your children/families. They continue to be proliferated by irresponsible unskilled drivers."

A video of the incident was understood to be circulating but police appealed to anyone who had more footage not to share it on social media, but send it to investigating officers.

The roads unit tweeted: "Please either call 101 or send us a DM via @DerPolContact. Incident 896-050921 refers. You can also send us a message on Facebook via the main Derbyshire Constabulary page."

The incident was one of two serious crashes being dealt with by the unit's night shift on Sunday night.

The other, in Barrow on Trent, involved a car and a motorcycle.

The same team on Saturday night attended a fatal accident and two serious crashes.
