A "phenomenal" fireball was seen travelling across the sky by people in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
A fireball meteor is simply a bright meteor streaking across the sky. They come in a variety of speeds and colours - occurring randomly throughout the year.
83 people in the UK reported the fireball to UK Meteor Network, which was seen at around 5.49pm on Tuesday, December 14.
Those who saw the fireball described a variety of observations. While one spotter near Liverpool saw a "glowing train that followed the fireball", another near Inverness in Scotland described the head of the meteor as "almost gas blue".
One sighting was reported in Northern Ireland, by a person located in Jerrettspass, Co Armagh.
The Co Armagh spotter said the fireball showed colours of orange, yellow, light yellow and white, and moved "from down right to up left".
Purple, blue and green colours were reported by people in other parts of the UK, as well as "a very bright white ball followed by a rainbow coloured train".
One woman was with her friend when they spotted the fireball from Scotland. She said: "Neither of us have ever seen anything like this despite having seen countless small but distant ones. This was spectacular!"
Another spotter who saw the fireball near Glasgow said: "Have only experience shooting stars, but this was phenomenal."
Belfast Live spoke to UK Meteor Network, who said: "I’m afraid that our cameras did not capture this event. We have very small coverage over Scotland."
But the organisation did capture a Geminid fireball at 11.42pm the night before.
