Specsavers creating more than 1,300 jobs in the UK and Ireland

High street opticians Specsavers is creating more than 1,300 jobs to support growth as the economy emerges from the fallout of the pandemic.

This will see 59 jobs at its 54 stores in Wales. In England it creating 1,137 new roles, Scotland 72, Northern Ireland 24 and the Republic of Ireland 68.

As well as clinical vacancies for registered optometrists and audiologists, the business is also recruiting for non-clinical vacancies – including retail, store management and apprenticeship roles – which don’t require any previous optical experience.

Specsavers said the majority of roles were linked to supporting growth and increased demand and are not specifically linked to people not returning from being furloughed or replacing redundant roles.

Specsavers Wales divisional chair, Clare Corcoran, said there was a broad spectrum of roles available with training provided at all levels.

She added: “We’ve experienced a real bounce back in trade so we’re really pleased to be in a position to create these new roles.

‘We would love people to consider a career with us, even if it means doing something completely different to what they are used to, as we have such a broad spectrum of roles available and provide training at all levels.’

‘As well as those with many years of clinical experience under their belt, we’re really keen to be talking to people from all backgrounds and ages, so if they would be of interest to you or someone you know, please do get in touch.

Specsavers has 937 stores in the UK and Ireland as well as 217 audiology businesses and 50 domiciliary businesses.

It has a total workforce of 23,000.

The business was founded by Llanelli-born Doug Perkins and his wife Mary in 1984.
