Specialist police investigate head-on crash that killed 29-year-old man

Specialist police have launched an investigation after a man died in a two-car crash at Freemans Waterhole.

About 7.30pm on Friday, emergency services were called to reports of a head-on crash between a silver Audi hatchback and a blue Volkswagen Amarok four-wheel-drive along Freemans Drive.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 29-year-old male driver and only occupant of the Audi, but he died at the scene.

The 53-year-old female driver and a 54-year-old male passenger of the Volkswagen were treated by paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Lake Macquarie Police District officers established a crime scene that will be examined by specialist police.

Police have urged anyone with information about the crash, or who may have been in the area at the time with mobile phone or dashcam footage, to contact Belmont Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
