Specialist police cordon off land near Salford Royal Hospital in part of 'ongoing search'

Specialists police officers have cordoned off land near Salford Royal Hospital in part of an 'ongoing search'.

Tactical Aid Unit officers and a number of police vehicles were pictured near the Ladywell Building off Eccles Old Road this morning (Saturday).

Photos taken at the scene appeared to show officers focusing their search on some large metal containers.

An area has been cordoned off with police tape in place.

A spokesperson for GMP said there is no threat to the wider public.

The search does not relate to an ongoing incident, they added.

Officers are expected to remain at the scene throughout the day.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Police are currently in attendance at an area of land close to Salford Royal hospital, this is in relation to an ongoing search.

"There is no threat to members of the public.

"This is not an ongoing police incident.

"Officers will remain at the area today."
