Special parking measures at Hamilton car park to help health service staff and patients

Special measures are being brought in at the car park between Beckford Street and Douglas Street in Hamilton.

South Lanarkshire Council say this is to help health service staff and patients during the coronavirus issue, as the NHS’s Douglas Street Clinic is experiencing greater than usual footfall.

This means additional car parking is required for health employees and patients, so one third of the car park, which is used by council staff and the general public, will be designated for this purpose, from today Monday, (March 23).

The authority say there will still be a large number of other spaces available for general use within the car park, and other free parking is available nearby, such as the car parks on the other side of Beckford Street and at Auchinraith Avenue.

Appropriate signage will be in place and parking attendants will be available to advise.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said: “We apologise for the short notice of this change, which will be in place until further notice, and thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation in these unprecedented times.”
