Special one-day Punjab session over UT today

CHANDIGARH: Amid the political row sparked by Centre’s decision to apply central service rules to employees of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, a special one-day session of the Punjab assembly will be convened on Friday.

According to the list of business for the session, chief minister Bhagwant Mann will move a resolution “regarding matters pertaining to Union Territory Chandigarh.”

Punjab government tweeted, “Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha has convened a one-day special sitting of the first session of the 16th State Assembly on Friday, April 1, at 10 am.” The first session of the newly-elected House began on March 21

No questions, call attention notices to be initiated

It being a special sitting of the House, a minister will propose that only important government business be transacted and no questions, calling attention notices be initiated.

Reacting to Union home minister Amit Shah’s announcement, Mann had tweeted, “Central Govt has been stepwise imposing officers and persbylineonnel from other states and services in Chandigarh administration. This goes against the letter and spirit of

Punjab Reorganisation Act 1966. Punjab will fight strongly for its rightful claim over Chandigarh…”
