Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson has said that it was ‘special’ to receive a message from former England captain David Beckham.
The 19-year-old is on a season-long loan at Lincoln City in the summer after being named in the Forest matchday squad for the first two Championship games of the season.
He has since gone onto start in the six games he has been available for since making the move to Sincil Bank.
The teenager has made a positive impact at the club, providing four assists so far. He was also on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle earlier this month, netting his first professional goal.
After that game, Johnson celebrated the milestone with a post on Instagram and was inundated with congratulations messages from teammates and friends.
But, one that may have stood out in particular for the youngster was a message from former Manchester United and England man David Beckham.
“Congratulations @brenjohnson_ first of many and hard work pays off,” he wrote.
Speaking of that message, Johnson said that it was unexpected but serves as a source of motivation.
“It is special,” he told the press before the League One match against Doncaster Rovers.
“I didn’t really expect it, but I was happy that he was seeing what I was doing and hopefully I am doing well and hopefully keep it going.”
Beckham came up through the Manchester United academy at the same time as Johnson’s father David Johnson, who played for Forest, Ipswich, and Bury amongst others.
Lincoln are currently top of the League One table after winning seven and losing just one of their opening nine matches of the season.
They are next in action when they take on ninth-placed Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
