Park Ji-hoon meets his Bangkok fans

After the K-pop sensation Wanna One, from TV singing competition Produce 101 Season 2, disbanded last year, members of the group became solo artists and held fan meetings around Asia. In March, four former members of the group are coming to Thailand, one each week. On March 8, Park Ji-hoon visited Bangkok to meet Thai fans.

MEETING MAY

At CentralWorld, the 19-year-old singer met lots of his fan club - called May - who had been waiting for him patiently in the extremely hot weather at an outdoor press conference. In the evening, Ji-hoon appeared onstage in a white shirt and black suit with a big smile. He said this visit to Thailand was so special for him and he felt honoured to have a fan meeting in Thailand.

The singer said before working on photo shoots and filming a TV commercial, he practiced a lot of Thai phrases. When the singer was asked what kind of activity that he wanted to do in Thailand, Ji-hoon said he would like to travel in the kingdom with his family. The singer was also questioned about a character he would like to play because he used to be a child actor. He said he would like to play a masculine and serious character.

GREAT GIG

On March 9 and 10, Ji-hoon held his first solo events at ThunderDome. Bangkok Post Learning attended the second show.  The show was divided into two parts - his performance and his activities with fans. During his time with Wanna One, Ji-hoon was a rapper and a main dancer. So he didn’t have the opportunity to show off his singing skills. The Bangkok event allowed the young singer to strut his stuff. Though he didn’t hit high notes or sing powerfully, his voice was pleasant, especially on his first solo single, “Young 20.”  Apart from great singing, the young K-pop heart-throb wowed the May with sleek and impressive dance moves in “Eleven” and “Press Your Number.”

FAN MOMENT

Everyone in the hall held their breath whenever Ji-hoon drew tickets to choose lucky fans. During this part Ji-hoon chatted with a lucky fan through a pretend phone made from two paper cups. He made a strawberry cake, brewed coffee and gave dolls to the lucky ones.

SOLO STAR

Ji-hoon seemed like a quiet person when he appeared with Wanna One. But at his solo event, the singer talked a lot with his fans and made lots of jokes with the MC. He also could handle the unexpected.  When the sound system had a problem, it didn’t stop his performance. His wit and charm made the two-hour show fly by.
