Spate of break-ins in South Dublin sees scary late night attack where burglars opened door 'with very little noise' using device

Locals have said that more patrols are needed in South Dublin following a spate of break-ins in the area.

Two break-ins occurred in the Dublin 16 vicinity in the space of 24 hours and residents are frightened at how easily the burglars seemed to gain access.

The first incident took place in Scholarstown Park in Knocklyon during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The victim of the burglary said that: "they successfully gained entry through the front door by prying it open with a screwdriver or a similar device."

They said that the thieves entered the building with "very little noise and escaped without being seen clearly".

In a statement to Dublin Live, gardai said that they "are investigating a burglary that occurred in Scholarstown Park, Knocklyon on 24 April at approximately 4am.

They added: "Entry was made through the front door and a small amount property was stolen. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."

As well as this, four males allegedly broke into a house in Monalea Grove in Firhouse, late on Tuesday night.

A witness told a local Facebook group that "a car with four males tried and successfully broke into a house after trying another five houses prior".

They added that the front door of the house was not doubled locked.

One commenter said that thieves are finding it easy to break into houses with PVC doors as "the centre panel just slips out for whichever design you choose" as seen below.

Another added: "What is going on in Knocklyon? It's terrible, this area is just getting worse."
