Spartans sign 3-star RB Zion Gist of Frankfort, Illinois

Spartans Illinois Michigan State Frankfort

Michigan State added an out-of-state running back to its 2025 class on Wednesday with Zion Gist signing with the Spartans.

Gist is a three-star prospect who hails from Frankfort, Illinois. Gist officially signed to become a Spartan during National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Gist ranks as the No. 138 running back in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2025 class. He’s also listed as the No. 57 player from Illinois in the class.

Gist was originally committed to Western Michigan before flipping to Michigan State last week. He also held offers from Marshall, Kent State and Northern Iowa.
