Spartans in the NBA Playoffs: Kalin Lucas

Kalin Lucas has only played two NBA games in his life, weirdly notching six-minutes played in both games. Nonetheless, he will be tasting his first playoff appearance as a contracted NBA player at the ripe age of 29-years-young as a two-way player for the Detroit Pistons.

Now, Lucas will certainly not even sniff a minute of playing time in this playoff series against the Milwaukee Bucks, however, it’s so impressive that he has made it to this point that I wanted to make sure I included him in this list.

The former Big Ten Player of the Year has bounced around the G-League and international basketball teams since leaving MSU in 2011, often battling injuries and finding it hard to gain traction on a roster. After a season playing in Jerusalem, he was signed by the Stockton Kings of the G-League, where he was so undeniably good that the Pistons signed him soon after to a two-way contract for their G-League squad, the Grand Rapids Drive.

He proceeded to lead the Drive in points-per-game with 21.6, and he was the best three-pointer shooter on the team, outside of Khyri Thomas who only played 10-games with the team.

Like I said, Lucas won’t be playing against the Bucks, but his story will be one we continue to keep an eye on.
