Spartan K Matt Coghlin named to Groza Award Watch List

Michigan State Football’s placekicker Matt Coghlin has been named to the 2019 Lou Groza Award Watch List. This news was announced Wednesday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. The award is given each year to the college football’s top kicker.

Coghlin was a semifinalist for the award in 2018. Coghlin is a strong candidate for the award as he was First Team All-Big Ten last season. He is one of 30 kickers on the Watch List for the award this year. Multiple outlets have him slated to repeat his First Team All-Big Ten selection this year.

Coghlin was the sixth Michigan State placekicker to ever be named First-Team All-Big Ten and the third under Dantonio. Brett Swenson earned those honors in 2009 and Dan Conroy did so in 2012. Coghlin is currently 1st in MSU history in field-goal percentage (33-for-41, .805). He has also never missed an extra point in his time with the school *knocks on wood*.
