A 102-year-old Spartak Moscow supporter, whose life savings were stolen from him, has been given a helping hand by the Russian club, which has raised around £5,400 in response to the theft.
Otto Fischer became a legendary figure among supporters after travelling 1,500km to watch Spartak in their Moscow derby against Dynamo and upon hearing of his plight, the club’s fan group rallied round.

Spartak’s players have also contributed and, according to Russia Today, Fischer will receive a percentage of gate from the next home match.
Fischer, who has appeared on Russian TV alongside Spartak’s Vyacheslav Krotov, is quoted as saying: “I am very glad to get this help. I bow my head to everyone who helped me in this situation. If I get another opportunity to see another game, I certainly will with great pleasure. We have a saying: ‘It is better to see something once than to hear about it one hundred times.’”
