Sparta Prague fans told Rangers trip requires best behaviour as club publish 'Glasgow handbook'

Rangers' Europa League opponents Sparta Prague have published what they call a "handbook" for their trip to Glasgow.

Sparta take on Gio van Bronckhorst's men at Ibrox in the Dutchman's first game in charge on Thursday night.

A home win would get his tenure off to a flyer and could seal a play-off place for the last 16 of the competition on the night if Brondby fail to win against Lyon.

But lose and it's the Europa Conference League after Christmas at best, while a chance of finishing dead last in Group A still remains.

It's set to be a tense one for those reasons but also for off-field issues.

The history between Gers, Sparta and city rivals Slavia is well known as Finnish midfielder Glen Kamara was racially abused by Slavia's Ondrej Kudela in March.

Following that vile incident, Sparta kids booed his every touch when the teams first met in September.

Those games went down officially as 'closed door' - last season's Slavia clashes came in the midst of the Covid lockout while a previous racist incident led to only children and their chaperones being permitted in Prague this season.

And so Sparta have given fans some ground rules to avoid any incidents ahead of what could be a powderkeg fixture.

Ahead of Thursday night's match, travelling fans have been told: "In Glasgow, you fans will also represent our club, its famous name, tradition and values."

Sparta have instructed fans not to venture from the city centre and to avoid club colours until inside Ibrox.

The club added: "Do not draw attention to yourself in the city, at the hotel, in the restaurant or in the means of transport. Do not provoke with loud chants outside the stadium.

"Also avoid verbal provocations towards Rangers fans.

"In short: take care of yourself."
