Sparta Prague boss plotting Rangers hammer blow as he predicts 'trouble' for Steven Gerrard

Sparta Prague boss Pavel Vrba feels that his side could effectively knock Rangers out of their Europa League group when the Gers travel to the Czech capital on matchday two.

Whilst Lyon ran out 2-0 winners against Rangers at Ibrox, the Czech side earned a credible point away at Brondby in Denmark in a goalless draw.

The Scottish champions face a potentially controversial trip to Prague later this month in their next game in the competition, against the bitter rivals of Slavia Prague, whose encounter with Rangers last season made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

And Vrba believes that picking up three points in the fixture would make it very difficult for Steven Gerrard’s team to recover in Group A.

He said: "Getting a point in Denmark was no bad thing. We know what we need to do to be successful in this group.

"It's very important in the group stage how we start. Well, we play Rangers next and if we beat them we will have four points and they will have none. So, we have the chance to really put them in a lot of trouble if we win.

"The game against Rangers at home could be the most important match in the group.

"Brondby are a good team too. They have a lot of good players too and their supporters are noisy. They will pick up points in the group too for sure.

"But I have to say I am very satisfied at this point. We are in a good position in the group if we beat Rangers."
