Spanish fourth division side Terrassa FC have taken their men’s senior side out of the league after they hurled sexist abuse at the club’s women’s team.

Terrassa B were playing Viladecavalls on Sunday in the women’s Segunda Division - the second level of league competition in the country - when they were subjected to insults and chauvinistic behaviour from members of Terrassa Veterans FC warming up on the touchline.

The match was called off by referee Alexia Mayer after Terrassa conceded a fourth goal without reply, due to the reported cries from their male counterparts to “get off the pitch, we’re due to play now. This game should have been called off, you shouldn’t be playing.”

The match officials’ report also revealed that the women were subjected to comments such as “go back to the kitchen and wash the dishes,” “you’re s**t,” and “you b*****s.”

Terrassa FC immediately opened an investigation and have now taken the decision to take the men’s senior side out of the league because the incident “was completely against the values of the club.”

“Having analysed and spoken with the representatives and people in charge of the teams, the Board of Directors has decided to withdraw the senior side from the competition as we consider belittlement by sexist insults to be a very serious offence,” a club statement said.

“Terrassa FC will continue working actively, today and always, for gender equality. We are committed to building a society and a sport which promotes values far different from any type of violence.”
