Spanish Prime Minister gives update on when tourists will be able to visit country again

People across the country have been forced to cancel holidays amid the coronavirus pandemic.

But some Brits are still holding onto hopes for a trip abroad in the coming months.

Spain is the latest country to issue an update on when tourists will be allowed back in.

Last week, the country's transport minister said bosses hope to restart the country's travel economy in time for the summer holidays - around late June.

That could coincide with the end of the Spanish government's travel ban, which currently sees Brits and non-EU travellers denied entry. That measure is due to be lifted on June 15.

The Spanish Prime Minister has now said the country will open borders to foreign holidaymakers from July.

"From now, foreign tourists can plan their vacations in our country," Pedro Sanchez added.

"We will guarantee that tourists will not run any risks and they will not bring us any risks.

"There will be a tourist season this summer.

"There will be no opposing forces between health and business."

The state of emergency in Spain, is due to end on June 7.

The country's R value now stands at 0.2, Mr Sanchez said, which is a significant drop from three a couple of months ago.
