Spanish paper takes swipe at Liverpool and claims Jurgen Klopp 'flatly ruled out' three big signings

Liverpool's summer signing of Darwin Nunez has been labelled the 'biggest miscalculation' of Jurgen Klopp's Anfield tenure.

Nunez enjoyed the perfect start to life as a Red after scoring on his competitive debut to help defeat Manchester City in the Community Shield and was again on target on the opening weekend of the Premier League season against Fulham.

Things took a turn for the worse the following game when the forward saw red for a headbutt on Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen, resulting in a three-match ban at a time when the club were already lacking first-team options due to an injury pile-up.

Nunez made his return to action in last weekend's Merseyside derby, starting from the off, but was unable to get on the scoresheet despite fashioning a number of chances. Supporters will soon be hoping to see the 23-year-old scoring on a regular basis as the Reds look to get their season back on track.

The Uruguayan, of course, arrived at Anfield in package that could eventually be worth up to £85million and is under pressure to hit the heights expected of a potential club-record signing.

Spanish newspaper El Pais have been less than impressed with what they have seen from the former Benfica man, with one journalist taking an early swipe and describing him as a 'glaring blemish’ on Klopp’s success in the transfer market of recent years.

The report adds the current situation regarding Liverpool's owners were left 'perplexed' when the German dismissed any concerns over the forward and that Klopp was warned by club staff he was taking a 'huge risk' by sanctioning this purchase.

Summer moves for Heung-min Son, Richarlison and Robert Lewandowski are said to have been on the table, according to El Pais, only to be 'flatly ruled out' by Klopp.
