Spanish football expert Guillem Balague gives verdict on Liverpool's stunning Champions League win over Barcelona

Guillem Balague gave an honest verdict of Liverpool's incredible Champions League triumph against Barcelona.

After the match the Spanish football journalist admitted he believed the Reds' triumph was always a possibility.

Jurgen Klopp's side suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Camp Nou in the first leg, but Balague professed the performance on the night was 'brilliant' and the result 'confusing'.

The famous pundit was in attendance at Anfield on Tuesday evening alongside former Liverpool coach Pako Ayestaran.

Speaking exclusively to the ECHO, Balague described his immediate reaction to the greatest ever semi-final comeback.

The 51-year-old said: "I've got a lot to say about tonight, a lot to say.

"But words are not coming out.

"This is one of those nights were you always remember where you were.

"I was in Anfield, and so was Pako [Ayestaran] by the way," Balague smilingy acknowledges his compatriot, who helped steer Liverpool to their historic fifth title as assistant to Rafael Benitez in 2005.

The Barca native continued: "I think you could see signs of what was going to happen in this one in the first leg but, there is always a but!

"I think Pako and I actually believed it was possible. And that's the memory of it; almost nothing is not impossible."

Liverpool overcame the odds to shutout Lionel Messi's Barcelona, and score four goals in the process.

Klopp's team fearlessly went in pursuit of the impossible, knowing one strike from the Catalan giants would have all but ended their Champions League dream.

But their never-say-die attitude was rewarded as the La Liga champions were caught hot on their heels by a raucous atmosphere and a spirited team.

When asked whether he thought the Reds chances of prevailing finalist were slim - following the hammer-blow loss on Spanish soil - Balague concluded: "No, there was enough evidence there that Liverpool were doing the right thing.

"The result was confusing but the performance was brilliant and they had the same performance (tonight) with the score as well!"

Liverpool will now do battle with Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid on June 1.
