Eager to delve into the horror genre, Spanish director Miguel Martí has joined forces with renowned actress-producer Macarena Gómez and distributor Carlos Guerrero for an exciting new project aimed at discovering a spine-chilling script. The trio, representing Madrid-based companies Wonder Ficción, Cilantro Films, and 39 Escalones, have initiated the We Are Looking for Your Horror Script campaign. They are inviting screenwriters with a flair for horror to submit their works from March 2 to April 16 through the website buscamostuguiondeterror.com.
The winning script will be revealed on July 13 at the Sotogrande Music Festival, a key partner in this endeavor. The selected scriptwriter will receive an initial €4,000 ($4,342) for a four-year option on the script, along with €3,600 for three months of development work. Over the subsequent four years, the producers will work towards financing the production. The final purchase of the script will be contingent upon securing the necessary funding.
Martí introduced the project at Spain's Malaga Film Festival, emphasizing the aim to provide an opportunity for aspiring screenwriters to see their work brought to life on the big screen. Martí is set to direct the film, with Gómez slated to star in a leading or supporting role, depending on the script's requirements.
Gómez, known for her work in horror and fantasy genres, expressed openness to various sub-genres within horror, including psychological terror and horror-comedy. The team is eager to explore diverse storytelling approaches. Martí stressed the importance of infusing the film with Spanish cultural elements, aiming to create a production that authentically reflects the country's traditions and storytelling style.
The initiative has garnered support from numerous local brands and organizations, including the Malaga Film Festival, MAFIZ, the Sotogrande Music Festival, and various other sponsors. By fostering collaboration with these partners, Martí, Gómez, and Guerrero are poised to elevate the project into a significant marketing initiative, showcasing Spanish talent and creativity in the horror genre.
