Spanish court makes ruling that affects Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham's Super League plans

UEFA and FIFA have been banned from blocking the launch of a new European Super League.

Six Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool along with another six leading European clubs have signed up to create a breakaway competition that they hope will rival the Champions League.

But both governing bodies have since vowed to take action with UEFA President Alexander Ceferin promising to punish players with the threat of banning them from the World Cup and Euros.

"I cannot stress more strongly how everyone is united against these disgraceful, self-serving proposals, fuelled by greed above all else," Ceferin said on Monday. "We are all united against this nonsense of a project.

"Cynical plan, completely against what football should be. We cannot and will not allow that to change.

"Players who will play in the teams that might play in the closed league will be banned from the World Cup and Euros.

"We urge everyone to stand tall with us as we do everything in our power to ensure this never ends up in fruition."

However, as per the Independent, a Spanish court has ruled that UEFA and FIFA are powerless to block the Super League from being launched.

The ruling states that neither Fifa or Uefa or any associated football body can take “any measure that prohibits, restricts, limits or conditions in any way” the launch of the league.

Meanwhile, AC Milan chief executive Ivan Gazidis has said that the proposed breakaway Super League will be good for the whole of football.

"We're confident that this new competition will capture the imagination of billions of football fans all over the world and will be a new, exciting chapter for the game," Gazidis wrote in a letter to Milan's sponsors and commercial partners.

"The Super League will provide value and support to the whole football pyramid with greater financial resources."
