Spanish City to host Soundfest contest to win final slot at Mouth of the Tyne Festival

This year's Mouth of the Tyne festival is now just two months away and there is still a chance to be on the lineup.

The likes of Rick Astley, The Proclaimers and Sam Fender are on the bill for the huge Tynemouth event which has become one of the biggest festivals in the North East.

Sam is a record breaker, having given Mouth of the Tyne Sam Fender's Mouth of the Tyne gig is the fastest selling in festival's history with all tickets snapped up almost as soon as they went on sale.

But local acts are now lining up to take part in Soundfest at Spanish City - with the winner's prize being the final place on the Mouth of the Tyne lineup.

Being held at the iconic Whitley Bay location on July 6, Soundfest will see a whole host of musicians compete for the amazing prize in front of a judging panel that includes a singer who is no stranger to performing in front of large crowds at big events - Channy Thompson.

Speaking ahead of the event, Channy said: “I’m really looking forward to Soundfest because it is something a little bit different. I’m involved in quite a lot of competitions but it’s not often competitions have this impact where the prize is so big and could have an impact on someone’s life and career.

“The main thing I would say to anybody is to just enjoy it.

"“I’m going to be looking for individuality, somebody who can make me inspired to want to get up there after them – and that’s something really hard.

“A lot of people can sing and a lot of people can perform but having that interaction with a person or an audience is thing you can’t teach."

The acts performing in Soundfest are:

Chrystabelle Enow

Daisy Main

Extremity

Katie Grace

Mr Sir

Sarita

The Doubt

The Sheds

The Churchills

Wristbands to be at Soundfest on the night are FREE and they’re available from the bands themselves, by calling (0191) 643 8215 or emailing  youngmayor@northtyneside.gov.uk .
