(Picture: Reuters)The world’s biggest lottery, El Gordo (The Fat One), is taking place in Spain today and it will turn one lucky person into a millionaire overnight.
The prize pool for the lottery is £2.1 billion, with the top prize being a cool £3.5 million.
Millions of hopefuls wait in line at lottery booths during El Gordo in Spain every December in the hope of winning a fortune.
The same lottery ticket, which costs £15, may be purchased more than once.
When did ticket sales close?
Unfortunately, sales ended yesterday (December 21) at 4pm UK time.
Each year, El Gordo lottery allows participation from British citizens despite being a Spanish lottery. You can visit El Gordo website and buy a ticket for £33.
Some 180 million tickets were available this year.
When are the winners announced?
The event will be broadcast live on television on Thursday morning and afternoon from the Spanish capital Madrid's Teatro Real Opera House. Pupils from the San Ildefonso School in Madrid sing the full winning ticket numbers.
Here are all the top prizes to be won today:
- A first prize of 4 million euros
- A second prize of 1.25 million euros
- A third prize of 500,000 euros
- Two fourth-place prizes of 200,000 euros
- Eight fifth-place prizes of 60,000 euros
