Spanian’s Melbourne Kebab Truck Damaged In Suspected Arson Attack

A Sydney influencer’s new kebab truck in Melbourne has been damaged in what police suspect was an arson attack, just weeks after its opening drew big crowds.

Early Friday morning, emergency services were called to Bell Street in Preston after reports that the Spanian’s Kebabs truck was on fire. Investigators believe a “flammable liquid” was used to set the truck alight around 4am, per 9News. Thankfully, the blaze was quickly brought under control and no one was injured.

The food truck is the latest venture from Anthony Lees, better known online as Spanian, who’s built a massive following for his raw travel vlogs and “Into the Hood” YouTube series.

After the incident, Lees took to Instagram to reassure followers that the business would bounce back quickly. “They burnt the front wall, right, but it’s not an issue, there’s another truck already on the way,” he said.

He also urged the local community to think about the impact of such attacks, saying, “Let me say two things … the owners of the trucks are people from your community. The trucks are part of their community and those people from your community save up for these trucks, and they have to pay for it.”

Lees added that he expected the business to be back up and running by the evening, with a replacement truck being driven down from Sydney. The damaged truck will be repaired.

Spanian’s Kebabs already operates three other trucks in New South Wales and has plans for further expansion, with a new site opening in Penrith soon.

Lees, who has more than a million followers across his social media accounts, is no stranger to controversy. In 2023, he was dropped by his management after a homophobic rant on social media, which was widely condemned by both fans and industry peers.

For now, Spanian’s Kebabs in Preston looks set to reopen quickly, with Lees promising fans that the setback won’t keep them from their late-night kebab fix. Police are still investigating the suspected arson.
