Spain wildfires leave destruction across Ávila province

Firefighters from Spain's Military Emergencies Unit (UME) are battling a wildfire in Sotillo de la Adrada, west of Madrid, as emergency crews continue to tackle major blazes across central Spain.

The wildfires have devastated parts of the Madrid, Ávila and Toledo regions. Spain's Minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, said around 77,000 hectares have been affected, with the largest burned area in Ávila province.

Firefighters remain on the ground to contain hotspots and prevent the fires from spreading further.

Burned homes and charred streets in Navaluenga illustrate the scale of one of Spain's most severe wildfire emergencies in recent years.
