Tourists heading for a late summer holiday in Spain face a washout as red weather warnings are in place in parts of the country.
Geordies heading to southern parts of the country such as Alicante and Murcia or to the Balearic Islands including Ibiza and Majorca could see downpours, gales and storms.
A red weather warning , signalling 'extreme risk' is in place across the south east of the mainland for rain and storms. It follows deadly flooding which hit Majorca last October.
There are also widespread yellow warnings issued by the Spanish forecaster Aemet for winds and flooding.
The forecaster is predicting up to 20cm of rain will fall over 12 hours over Friday and there is an up to 70% chance of extreme storms.
The worst of the weather is expected on Friday.
Rain and storms are set to continue on Saturday but are not expected to be as severe.
The adverse weather conditions that affected the north east of Spain earlier this week have now moved on to the south and east of the Balearic Islands.
Majorca has already been hit by severe rain, hail and a tornado while Ibiza remains on orange alert as more storms are expected over the coming days.
UK Government travel advice issued to holidaymakers said that "due to forecasted torrential rain; flash floods may occur and could cause disruption and delays to transport services; if you’re in these areas, you should follow the advice of local authorities".
