Spain travel checklist of everything you need when travelling from UK

Holidays are back on the cards for many after Spain relaxed their covid entry requirements.

Airports around the UK saw a surge of travellers, leadings to long queues and delays as many headed on holiday for the first time since the covid pandemic began.

Now, as covid rules change regularly, it can be confusing to keep up and if you haven't travelled in a while, you might be wondering what you need before you jet off to sunny Spain.

Passengers have been encouraged by airlines and airports to have the correct documentation ready in a bid to avoid long delays and some have been warned of losing their holiday all together.

So no matter where you are heading, it's important to check what you need before jetting off.

Here is everything you need to check before flying to Spain.

Passport expiry date

The Home Office has warned of a 10-week processing time for new passports following a surge of applications.

This comes as a new Brexit rule means that passports are valid for 10 years from the date of issue - cancelling out any extra months that could have been added previously.

To travel to Spain, you need to have three months left on your passport after the day you plan to leave.

You can check the specific country's passport rules and travel advice here.

Passenger Locator Form

Check if you need a passenger locator form.

Spain are allowing those who are fully vaccinated or have proof of covid recovery within the last six months, to enter without filling out a Health Control Form.

Proof of Covid-19 status

Spain are accepting British travellers if they have proof of being fully vaccinated or having proof of recovery from Covid-19 within the last six months.

It must be noted that many countries, including Spain, require travellers to have a booster jab to be considered fully vaccinated if it's been over nine months since the second dose. But this time limit can change depending on each country, so check the specific travel advice.

Your final dose must have been administered within 270 days prior to travel to Spain.

You can get proof of covid recovery from NHS Inform.

If you print out the copy or have it as a PDF on your phone, then it needs to be dated at November 1 2021.

Children aged 12 to 17 inclusive travelling for tourism can enter Spain by presenting documentation certifying that they have undertaken a Covid-19 PCR test.

Gov.uk point out, to travel to the Canary or Balearic islands from mainland Spain, you may need to show a negative covid test depending on the region you are travelling from. For specific information on travel to the Balearic Islands see the Balearic Islands Tourism board.

Those visiting the Canary Islands may be required by tourist accommodation providers to show evidence of a negative test, see the Canary Island tourist board website for details

Face mask requirement

Each country can enforce their own face mask rules as can airlines - here are the current rules for Ryanair, Tui and more.

This means it is worth checking your airline and country of destination to make sure you know the rules for face masks.

In Spain, face masks are not mandatory but are encouraged in busy public spaces and indoors.

However, they are mandatory on public transport and in metro stations.
