Spain to open to UK holidaymakers without proof of negative Covid test

Spain will open its borders for UK holidaymakers without having to show evidence of a negative PCR test from next week.

The Spanish Government released a state bulletin this morning which outlined changes to its policy on international travellers entering the country.

It states that travellers from the UK will be allowed to enter Spain from May 24 - paving the way for Scots holidays in the country to resume.

But the country remains on the Scottish Government’s amber list for international travel, which means that Scots must self-isolate for 10 days when they arrive back in Scotland.

Scots should still take a coronavirus test before travelling, and will be ordered to take a further two tests during their period of quarantine.

Scottish health officials say that Scots should avoid non-essential travel to amber and red list countries amid concerns over the potential importation of new variants of coronavirus.

Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Gregor Smith, recently urged travellers to limit trips abroad at this moment in time.

He said: “Given the risk of returning with infection, and especially of introducing new variants of the virus, we continue to be highly cautious about international travel.

“Everyone should continue to limit their travel abroad and while I understand the need for some people who want to reunite with family, when it comes to holidays, my advice continues to be play it safe and staycation this summer.”

Vaccinated Scots can now provide evidence of their coronavirus jab ahead of any trips abroad.

The Scottish Government released details of the scheme earlier this week, which allows holidaymakers to download or print proof of their vaccination status before jetting off.
