Spain stag and hen do fine warning as police up patrols to clamp down on revellers

Police in Spain are cracking down on stag and hen parties in the Costa del Sol with some police forces even taking on more officers to cope with overseas partygoers.

With summer 2022 approaching, many Brits are looking to book holidays and events overseas. Spain is a popular and easily accessible destination for Brits to travel and soak up some sun. Summer is also known to be a popular time for weddings and with COVID restrictions lifted, many may be looking to book stag and hen parties abroad.

However, options to do this are restricted this year in some Spanish cities as there have been police warnings against such activities.

Extra police are being brought into Malaga to help crack down on stag and hen parties in the city on Spain’s Costa del Sol. The increase of police officers is expected to rise from 15 to 45 officers.

Over the past few years, Costa del Sol has become a popular place for stag and hen weekends. Councillor of security Avelino Barrionuevo said that these measures were necessary because of the abundance of parties. According to the councillor, police are expected to be patrolling several areas including the Plaza de la Merced and Cervantes Theatre, the Beatas and Plaza de Uncibay between the hours of 11pm and 6am.

Barrionuevo said that the police have the power to fine people who sing, shout or play radios or other musical instruments at high volumes up to €300,000. Therefore if you do head to Malaga before your wedding day, you may want to be wary and monitor your noise levels to avoid any hefty fines. Flats in some areas of Malaga also have to adhere to having sound monitors so they can give evidence of noise-related law-breaking.

Stag and hen parties bring a significant amount of money to the tourist industry. However, the measures have been brought in to combat the excessive noise and antisocial behaviour these events also subject the local people to.
