Spain, Portugal and the top holiday spots that will welcome Irish tourists this summer

The government has announced that international travel will be allowed from July 19 but it won't be as we once knew it.

Europe's digital green-cert will be in operation which means that you will need some proof that you are Covid free before jetting off.

This ranges from a negative Covid test to a vaccine certificate.

But once the skies are opened here in Ireland, here are the top destinations that will allow Irish visitors in.

Spain

Travellers can jet off to Spain with no mandatory quarantine needed on arrival. Some restrictions remain on dining and drinking, such as a maximum group of 4 allowed indoor and six outdoors.

Cafés, bars and restaurants are currently required to close at midnight, with no new customers allowed to be served after 11 pm.

However, these restrictions may have changed by July 19.

Portugal

There is currently no quarantine required in Portugal for visitors from countries with less than 500 cases per 100,000 people. This includes Ireland.

The EU Digital Green Certificate must be presented upon arrival.

Italy

The popular holiday destination steeped in history and architecture will not require a quarantine period for those travelling from Ireland.

However, this will change if Covid case numbers rise and Ireland moves to a country that is not permitted to enter on the Italian risk assessment system.

Iceland

Having kept case numbers at bay since the beginning of Covid, Iceland is accepting tourist from countries on the green and yellow list.

This means a holiday to Iceland will not require a quarantine period once a negative PCR test is shown upon arrival or there is proof of vaccination.

These details will appear on a visitors EU Digital Green Certificate.

Germany

Germany will also allow Irish tourists to enter without the need for a quarantine period.

Once again, proof of vaccination, negative PCR test or proof of recovery from Covid is needed upon arrival.

Croatia

The beautiful holiday location will allow all EU countries on the green list are allowed into Croatia provided they have a negative PCR test or proof of vaccination.

Greece

Keen to reopen the tourism sector, Greece will allow Irish visitors in provided they have been vaccinated or have a negative PCR test.

All passengers are also asked to fill out a Passenger Locator Form.

Beaches are open; however, people must be socially distanced, and bars and restaurants must close at midnight.

These restrictions may ease further by July 19, when international reopens.
