Spain makes major change to Covid travel restrictions ahead of half-term holiday

The Spanish government has made some major changes to its travel restrictions as school kids across the UK prepare to enjoy their half-term break.

From today (October 21), all Covid-19 travel restrictions to enter Spain have been lifted. It means that British passport holders no longer have to present any proof of being vaccinated or a negative Covid test at border control.

British holidaymakers will also no longer be required to show proof of having recovered from Covid-19 in the six months leading up to travel or complete a health control form prior to travel. It comes after Spain was one of the last European countries to enforce strict entry rules for foreign travellers, causing a myriad of difficulties for British travellers.

Announcing the lifting of the rules, the Spanish tourism board website wrote: "Effective October 21, 2022, restrictions regarding Covid-19 test and vaccination certificate will be lifted." Now, Spain joins the list of European countries without any Covid travel restrictions after France lifted its restrictions in August and Luxembourg's in September.

According to the new travel rules, only one restriction within the country is still in place - mandatory face covering. When travelling inside Spain, holidaymakers are required to wear a face mask on public transport and inside planes.

Face masks are also mandatory for anyone over the age of six if they are visiting a hospital, medical centre, nursing home, or any other healthcare setting such as dentists and opticians.

However, face masks are not required in airports, ports or stations.
