Spain has dropped Covid travel rules in a sweeping change that paves the way for smoother holiday planning.
It is one of the last European countries to lift its pandemic travel restrictions. The news is sure to make waves in the UK given that Spain is one the most sought after destinations for British tourists.
Spain previously required travellers aged 12 and over to show proof of vaccination, a negative Covid test, or proof of recovery from the virus within the last six months. The requirements came to an end one minute past midnight on October 21.
The Spanish tourism board announced the change on its website, writing: "Effective October 21, 2022, restrictions regarding Covid-19 test and vaccination certificate will be lifted."
The change comes a month after Spain removed the requirement for travellers to complete a health declaration form.
Among the countries keeping restrictions in place are the US and Japan. Only double-jabbed visitors are permitted in America and, whilst Japan recently fully reopened to tourism, travellers must provide proof of vaccination or take a PCR test.
