Spanish authorities are introducing new restrictions on UK visitors to the Balearic Islands, which include Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca.
The Balearics have been added to the UK's green list for travel from 4am on Wednesday - which means Brits can holiday there without the need for quarantine on return.
But there will be new restrictions for anyone entering Spain from the UK - also from Wednesday - if you are not fully vaccinated.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez told radio network Cadena SER that travellers who were not fully vaccinated must have taken a recent negative PCR test.
The change would be enforced within 72 hours, he said on Monday morning.
This means it will be in place when the Balearic Islands are added to the UK’s green list on Wednesday.
PM Sanchez said the UK’s Covid figures were “worrying” because the accumulated 14-day rate was “well above 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.”
Spain opened up to British tourists at the end of May, despite France and Germany unveiling tougher rules.
At the time Mr Sanchez extended his own personal invite to holidaymakers from the UK by announcing in English they could return with no Covid tests or vaccine requirements.
The news comes as Malta announced its update to UK travellers ahead of the country moving to the green list.
The central Mediterranean country announced that from Wednesday it will only permit UK visitors who were fully vaccinated.
Children under 12 will be allowed to enter if they are accompanying parents or guardians who had had both doses.
Those aged between five and 11 would also have to show evidence of a negative PCR test taken within the previous 72 hours.
