Spain holidays: Irish tourists holidaying in 2022 will be hit by expensive changes

Irish tourists will be paying more for their shopping and essentials when holidaying in Spain than ever before in 2022.

Inflation is stinging all of Europe with huge price rises on everyday products as a result of the war in Ukraine.

While flights and accommodation are not likely to be surging by too much, the prices you pay when you arrive in the country will be the issue.

Meat, milk, eggs and any other animal products are all seeing huge price increases at the moment and could rise even further by the time the Irish summer holidayers arrive.

Jorge De Saja, director of Cesfac (Spain’s Confederation of Animal Food Producers) told Business Insider: “In ten days, the price of raw materials, like wheat and corn, has gone up between 30 and 60 percent."

Sunflower oil, while maybe not an essential, is also soaring in price and could have a knock-on effect in restaurants or other products.

Bread and pasta are also surging, Spain imports 65% of its wheat from Ukraine so there is no surprise with that increase.

Overall inflation in Spain accelerated in February to its fastest pace in nearly 33 years.

Those renting cars will also see major increases in their petrol or diesel prices - as is the case here in Ireland.
