Spain could see temperatures hit a sweltering 41C this weekend just as thousands of Brits think about returning to the holiday hotspot.
As the UK's lockdown begins to ease and the talk of air bridges to countries with similar coronavirus rise, the mercury in Spain has started to rocket skyward.
Madrid, Palma and other parts of Spain are already hitting highs in the mid-30s but they could top more than 40 by Sunday.
Brits won't see temperatures quite so high, but the sun is set for a comeback on Saturday with 24C highs forecast for England's reopening pubs.
A map by WXCharts show various Spanish spots hitting the low 40s, with the rest of the country a vast swathe of bright red.
Bonnie Diamond from the Met Office told Mirror Online: "We are already seeing temperatures today of 37 in Madrid and that rises again to 38 by tomorrow.
"So Spain is expecting a good spell of hot weather, which is typical of the Spanish climate, although it is slightly higher than average.
"We would expect to see high 30s and low 40s in July.
"In comparison last July Cambridge University Botanical Gardens recorded the UK's highest ever temperature of 38.7."
She added that the UK would see a settled period of weather next week, but unfortunately the weather wasn't on its way here from Spain.
She said: "An area of high pressure from the Atlantic will bring settled weather across the UK.
"We could see a spell of warmer weather but it won't be from a Spanish origin."
The Olive Press in Spain adds that 2020 has been the hottest ever year for the country.
The temperature from the start of January to the end of May rose by 1.6C, compared tot he average for the same period, the newspaper reports.
It means for the first five months of the year, it was the hottest since records began in 1965.
Brits are waiting for news from the government over lifting of 14-day quarantine restrictions for people landing in the UK from countries in Europe.
Spain, Greece and France could be on the list, but Portugal looks set to be excluded as coronavirus cases rose in the last few weeks.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is still advising all British nationals against all but essential travel, meaning most travel insurance policies remain invalid.
