Spain campsite has 'Paradise' zone with no social distancing or face masks needed

A campsite in Spain has said guests will not need to follow strict coronavirus rules - if they take a test when they arrive.

The camping and caravan park is one of the first in Europe to offer covid-19 free accommodation for holidaymakers.

Campsite Trillas Platja Tamarit, in Tarragona, north-eastern Spain, has designed an "ultra-safe area" inspired by South Korea.

The coastal holiday venue will subsidise part of the medical tests and follow-up, with customers having to contribute an extra €100.

After testing negative, guests will be able to stay in the sites "Paradise" zone with beach views, a sports area, swimming pool, restaurant and entertainment.

The area is set to open in the second half of July.

The special zone will have space for about 40 mobile homes and ten pitches for a caravan, motorhome or tent.

Owners say they will fast-track the coronavirus test - which normally takes about 48 hours -so guests get their test results in six hours.

Holidaymakers will have to wait in a special area until the result is known, wearing masks and following social distancing rules.

Anyone who tests positive must either visit the hospital or immediately isolate, and their results will be reported to the health authority.

A company spokesman said the measures "allow the essence of the human relations, one of the greatest attractions of the 'camping experience', without masks or fear of approaching other people."

They added: "The fact that this campsite has large open spaces has been key to launching this project and creating differentiated areas."

The firm admitted it would be impossible to guarantee 100 per cent safety but said the project "makes it feasible to enjoy a vacation experience in camping in complete freedom, without additional security measures."

The rest of the accommodation at the camping site will be subject to extensive safeguards and hygiene measures in order to keep guests safe.
