Spain announces plans to welcome back foreign tourists in July

Foreign tourists will be able to enjoy a summer holiday in Spain from July, the country's Prime Minister confirms.

Bars, hotels, restaurants and inland hotels were told to "prepare to resume business in a few days".

The news means that the country's hospitality industries will be able to start operating just in time for the peak of the summer season, the Express reports.

In a conference held this afternoon, Mr Sanchez said: "We must begin to restart economic activity.

“Some of these sectors are hostelry and tourism, which have a fundamental role in the creation of employment.

"The moment has arrived. I’m announcing to you that there will be a tourist season this year and I invite all tourist establishments to start to prepare from today to restart their activity in a few days from now.”

He said tourism in July would be “in safe conditions.”

Mr Sánchez also announced its national top-tier football tournament, La Liga, can resume from June 8.

He also announced an official period of mourning in the country, lasting 10 days.

During this time flags will fly at half mast.

Additionally King Felipe VI will hold an official ceremony.
