Spain 2-3 England: Player ratings after England's remarkable victory

England's players celebrate their spectacular 3-2 win over Spain ( Getty )

England pulled off a spectacular 3-2 away win against Spain in Seville securing a defining win in Gareth Southgate’s tenure and UEFA Nations League safety.

Southgate's side started in ballistic fashion in the first-half and frequently exposed the space between Spain’s centre-back pairing of Sergio Ramos and Nacho via lofted through balls.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring with his first goal for England in 27 caps after a majestic 17-pass passage of play exhibited England's own imitation of tiki-taka.

And then it was Marcus Rashford who added the second as Harry Kane turned provider. The Tottenham striker laying off Jordan Pickford's long-ball to perfection so Rashford could prod past his teammate David De Gea.

Sterling added another to extend England’s lead to three at half-time - the first time Spain have conceded as many at home in their history. The Spaniards did regroup for the second half and got one back after Paolo Alcacer headed home but England showed great maturity and resilience after reverting to the three at the back formation.
