SpaceX Starlink satellites to fly over Belfast and this is how you can see them

Stargazing families will be kept entertained during coronavirus lockdown as regular flyovers from SpaceX's fleet of Starlink satellites are expected in the coming nights.

Residents across Northern Ireland have already reported seeing strange lights in the skies over the weekend, and according to one space expert it could continue in the coming days.

People will be able to watch as dozens of tiny satellites - which will look like UFO's - without even having to leave their homes.

The satellites can be seen right from your back garden meaning you can abide by social distancing rules.

The satellites are part of a scheme by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, launched with the aim of improving global internet coverage.

And up until at least April 5 - a cluster of satellites known as Starlink will be crossing the night sky.

Space journalist Jonathan O’Callaghan said the sightings will continue in the short term as new satellites are regularly launched.

“Starlink is a large group of satellites known as a mega constellation, being launched into space by Elon Musk’s US company SpaceX," he added.

“The satellites are designed to beam internet coverage to the ground from space, with the goal of providing global high-speed internet at any location on Earth.

“The satellites are launched in batches of 60 into low orbits, where they appear as a bright train of lights in the night sky.

“You can use websites like findstarlink.com to track them.”
