'Spaceship' appears on Northumberland Street in suspected clue to John Lewis Christmas advert

A spaceship-themed street sculpture warning passers-by of "unexpected guests" appears to have crash-landed in Newcastle city centre.

Shoppers in the city were greeted with the extraordinary sight on Northumberland Street on Monday.

The installation depicts a spaceship crashing onto the pavement, surrounded by a pile of rubble and a fallen road sign.

And a small plaque reads: "Christmas is landing. 4/11/21. #UnexpectedGuest"

The unusual sight has left some people asking if the sculpture is linked to this year's John Lewis Christmas advert.

A Twitter user said: " Christmas is landing in London apparently! #unexpectedguest anyone know what this is about?"

Speculation between social media users questioned whether the sculpture could be linked to this year's John Lewis advert.

The retailer recently revealed TV audiences can expect the 2021 ad soon.
