Huge day for your most annoying friend. Spaceballs, which was one of our original spoof films, took inspiration from classics like Star Wars, had music that reminded us of Jaws, and had Rick Moranis in a big helmet. Now, it’s back!
If you grew up a comedy fan, you knew Mel Brooks’ movies. I grew up watching Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and Spaceballs with my family and see Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) take on the galaxy was just as thrilling as watching Darth Vader do so in Star Wars. But I love so much about this franchise. Do I love Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) because it is just a new Han Solo? Probably but hey, that’s okay. Now, I get MORE!
A new Spaceballs is coming and guess what? Rick Moranis is coming out of retirement for it. Did I cry at that news? Yes. Then I read on and saw that Lewis Pullman was joining the cast as Lone Starr’s son (aka his father’s son) and I thanked whatever God was out there giving me, personally, a gift.
The news was posted by Mel Brooks’ official X account with a video that shared just how much Star Wars has happened since the original Spaceballs was released in 1987.
According to Deadline, Keke Palmer is also set to be part of the cast but we do not yet know who she will be playing in the space comedy. But look, it is cool enough to have Lone Starr back but adding in Lewis Pullman and the return of Rick Moranis just makes this one of the greatest things to happen in recent years.
It’s a great time to be a comedy fan

We used to have comedies regularly coming out in theaters. While they still exist, a theatrical release is rare. To be fair, I don’t know if the sequel to Spaceballs will hit theaters but returning to the kooky world that Mel Brooks created is at least a step in the right direction.
We don’t know much else about the movie but if you’ve seen Spaceballs, you probably have an idea of what is to come. I just think it is fun to have both of the Pullmans in the film and any movie that gets Rick Moranis back into acting is a movie that I’m going to love! So until we know more, at least we know that there are some good things in the world still.
